When one hears about Albufeira, the first thought is: Blue sky, bright sun, warm sea and soft golden sand. Next, amazingly white, bright houses.
The progress has turned Albufeira into a charming town with a developed tourism industry and numerous leisure activities. The cultural life is flourishing in Albufeira, with one of the most modern libraries in the country, the Art Gallery, the Archaeological Museum and the Auditorium, where many exhibitions and concerts take place.
One may say that Albufeira has the tradition of welcoming Theatre Groups, Orchestras and Choirs. One of the Choral Groups of the local Conservatory of Music, the Youth Choir, is well known by its performances all over the country, especially in the area of Algarve and in several cities in France, Germany, Greece, Spain and Austria were stage for their voices.
Over the recent years Albufeira has become famous for its Festivals.
In 2003, our city had the pleasure of welcoming about 250 singers, from UK, Spain and France, in its 1st International Choir Festival, which had the participation of 16 Choirs from all over the Algarve. We have, during these last 5 years, received several foreign Choirs, such as from Germany, France, Spain, Ireland, United Kingdom, Greece and Austria, who performed in our Auditorium and in the local Main Church.
The Municipality organizes, every year, a Festival of Portuguese Traditional Music, a Festival of Carols, a Festival of amateur “Fado” and a Festival of Choirs, where several groups of the Region are invited to perform.
